EN: Basically you can visit Uzbekistan all year round, but which season brings which peculiarities and advantages, I tell you now.
Good to know: The tourist high seasons are spring and autumn, more precisely mid/late March to early May as well as September and October. During this time, the touristy Silk Road cities are crowded with tourists. If you want to avoid the flow of tourists, you should choose a different travel period. However, the temperatures are most pleasant in the high tourist season.
DE: Grundsätzlich kann man Usbekistan das ganze Jahr besuchen, welche Jahreszeit jedoch welche Eigenheiten und Vorteile mit sich bringt, erläutere ich Dir hier.
Gut zu wissen: Die touristische Hochsaisons sind Frühling und Herbst, genauer gesagt Mitte/Ende März bis Anfang Mai sowie September und Oktober. In dieser Zeit ist es in den touristischen Seidenstrassenstädte voll mit Touristen. Wer den Touristenströmen entgehen möchte, sollte sich also einen anderen Reisezeitraum wählen. Allerdings sind die Temperaturen in der touristischen Hochsaison am angenehmsten.
Spring - Frühling
Spring
Spring is a wonderful time to travel to Uzbekistan. Nature is awakening and blooming everywhere! It is especially nice when the poppy fields bloom. Then there are fields that shine bright red.
The New Year holiday Navruz, which is of Zoroastrian origin, takes place on March 21. Parks are decorated all over the country, folklore performances and people wear festive clothes (often with traditional patterns). Another festival that celebrates spring awakening is "Boysun Bahori" (Boysun is a city in southern Uzbekistan and "bahor" means spring). Unfortunately I haven't visited the festival myself, but it has to be fantastic! Another festival, which takes place in spring (late May) and which I have not yet visited, is the "Silk and Spices Festival" in Bukhara.
Regarding the weather, early spring is still a bit uncertain. It can rain a lot in March and early April, but after that it gets pleasantly warm. Last year it rained so much at the end of March that it flooded the streets in Samarkand. (This is probably also due to the poor water drainage system.) Before that, temperatures were around 20 degrees Celsius. (Hello climate change ...) Due to the warm climate, fresh mulberries, strawberries, apricots and rhubarb may already be on the market in the end of April/beginning of May.
Frühling
Der Frühling ist eine wunderbare Zeit, um Usbekistan zu bereisen. Die Natur erwacht und überall blüht es! Besonders schön ist es, wenn die Mohnfelder blühen. Dann gibt es ganz Felder, die leuchtend rot strahlen.
Am 21. März findet zudem das Neujahrsfest Navruz, welches zoroastrischen Ursprungs ist, statt. Überall im Land werden Parks geschmückt, Folkloredarbietungen aufgeführt und Menschen tragen festliche Kleidung (oft mit traditionellen Mustern). Ein weiteres Fest, welches das Frühlingserwachen feiert ist "Boysun Bahori" (Boysun ist eine Stadt im Süden Usbekistans und "bahor" bedeutet Frühling). Leider habe ich das Festival selber noch nicht besucht, aber es muss fantastisch sein! Ein weiteres Festival, welches im Frühling (Ende Mai) stattfindet und ich noch nicht besucht habe, ist das "Seide und Gewürze Festival" in Buchara.
Bezüglich Wetter ist es Anfangfrühling noch etwas unsicher. Im März und Anfangapril kann es viel regnen, aber danach wird es angenehm warm. Letztes Jahr hat es Ende März so viel geregnet, dass es die Strassen in Samarkand überschwemmte. (Das liegt wahrscheinlich auch am schlechten Wasserableitungssystem.) Zuvor herrschten Tempertaturen um die 20 Grad Celsius. (Hallo Klimawandel...) Aufgrund des warmen Klimas kann es sein, dass bereits Ende April/Anfang Mai frische Maulbeeren, Erdbeeren, Aprikosen und Rhabarber auf dem Markt angeboten werden.

Summer - Sommer
Summer
Uzbek summers are hot! And the thermometer sometimes climbs over 40 degrees Celsius. After all, the heat in Uzbekistan is dry, but that doesn't help at over 40 degrees either. Due to the heat, there are almost no tourists in summer. And if so, there are mostly Italians, Spaniards and French.
Nevertheless, summer is a great time to travel to Uzbekistan, because you have a 100% "blue sky guarantee" and there are delicious-tasting fruits on the markets. The highlight are the melons, which will be offered in the markets around July. In addition, it smells of basil, which can be found everywhere in flower borders. Summer is also ideal for hiking in the mountains.
The international music festival "Sharq Taronalari" takes place every two years in Samarkand at the end of August. The atmosphere is unique. Musical performances on the "most beautiful place in the Orient". Sweating is definitely worth it! Another festival that takes place in August is the Melon Festival (qovun sayli) in Khiva. In addition, the wedding high season is in summer. Weddings take place every day!
Warm summer nights! I had wonderful warm summer nights during my first stay in Uzbekistan from early June to early September. We ate outside every evening in the courtyard and for dessert we had refreshing, chilled watermelon. There are many restaurants in Uzbekistan with beautiful gardens and outdoor seating. Sometimes with fountains and narrow streams. The rushing water is wonderfully relaxing.
Sommer
Usbekische Sommer sind heiss! Und das Thermometer klettert manchmal auch über 40 Grad Celsius. Immerhin herrscht in Usbekistan trockene Hitze, aber das hilft bei über 40 Grad auch nicht mehr. Aufgrund der Hitze gibt es im Sommer fast keine Touristen. Und wenn, dann sind es fast immer Italiner, Spanier und Franzosen.
Dennoch ist der Sommer eine tolle Zeit, um Usbekistan zu bereisen, denn man hat eine hundertprozentige "blauer-Himmel-Garantie" und auf den Markten gibt es köstlich schmeckende Früchte. Das Highlight sind die Melonen, welche circa ab Juli auf den Märkten angeboten werden. Zudem riecht es nach Basilikum, welcher überall in Blumenrabatten vorzufinden ist. Der Sommer ist auch ideal für Wanderungen in den Bergen.
Alle zwei Jahre findet Ende August zudem das internationale Musikfestival "Sharq Taronalari" in Samarkand statt. Die Stimmung ist einmalig. Musikalische Darbietungen auf dem "schönsten Platz des Orients". Dafür lohnt sich das Schwitzen auf jeden Fall! Ein weiteres Festival welches im August stattfindet, ist das Melonen-Fest (qovun sayli) in Chiwa. Ausserdem ist im Sommer Hochzeit-Hochsaison. Jeden Tag finden Hochzeiten statt!
Warme Sommernächte! Wunderschöne warme Sommernächte habe ich bei meinem ersten Aufenthalt in Usbekistan von Anfangjuni bis Anfangseptember erlebt. Jeden Abend haben wir draussen im Innenhof gegessen und als Nachspeise gab es erfrischende, gekühlte Wassermelone. In Usbekistan gibt es viele Restaurants mit wunderschönen Gärten und Sitzplätzen im Freien. Manchmal mit Brunnen und schmale Bäche. Das rauschende Wasser wirkt herrlich entspannend.
Autumn - Hersbst
Autumn
The overflowing markets speak for a trip to Uzbekistan in autumn, wonderfully ripe and colorful figs, grapes and pomegranate are great photo opportunities. Another reason are the more pleasant temperatures, until mid-October you have a good weather guarantee.
Autumn is actually like a second/extended summer. The temperatures are around 25 degrees Celsius. Only in the middle/end of October does the weather cool down and become autumnal. So you can still linger outside in the evening. In contrast to summer, you may need a thin jacket, but it is still comfortable.
September 1st is Uzbek National Day and parades and celebrations take place across the country. Other great festivals that take place in September are the Atlas Festival in Margilan, the Crafts Festival in Kokand (every two years) and the international dance festival "Raqs Sehri" (Magic of Dance) in Khiva.
Herbst
Für eine Reise nach Usbekistan im Herbst sprechen die überquellenden Märkte, herrlich reife und farbenkräftige Feigen, Trauben und Granatäpfel sind tolle Fotomotive. Ein weiterer Grund sind die angenehmeren Temperaturen, bis Mitte Oktober hat man sozusagen eine gute Wettergarantie.
Eigentlich ist der Herbst wie ein zweiter/verlängerter Sommer. Die Temperaturen liegen um die 25 Grad Celsius. Erst Mitte/Ende Oktober kühlt sich das Wetter ab und wird herbstlich. Man kann also immer noch abends draussen verweilen. Im Gegensatz zum Sommer braucht man dann vielleicht eine dünne Jacke, aber ist immer noch angenehm.
Am 1. September ist der usbekische Nationalfeiertag und im ganzen Land finden Paraden und Feierlichkeiten statt. Weitere tolle Festivals, die im September stattfinden sind das Atlas-Fest in Margilan, das Handwerker-Festival in Kokand (alle zwei Jahre) sowie das internationale Tanzfestival "Raqs Sehri" (Magie des Tanzes) in Chiwa.
Winter - Winter
Winter
I was in Uzbekistan almost the whole winter 2018/2019 and can say that the climate is not as severe as it used to be. Of course it was sometimes quite cold, but sometimes the weather was at 15 degrees Celsius. Some years ago the winters were cold and severe and it used to be a lot of snow. However, I only experienced snow once in Samarkand. (But it snowed early April this year! Climate change has also arrived in Central Asia.)
What speaks for a trip to Uzbekistan in winter are the small number of tourists, the "Christmas mood" from December (Uzbeks are Muslims and do not celebrate Christmas, but they have adopted the Christmas decorations and Santa Claus from the Russians, what for them belongs to New Year holidays), to experience New Year in Uzbekistan and if you are lucky, the Uzbek sights are wrapped in a thin layer of snow. Then it is really a winter wonderland.
I am not aware of any festivals that take place in the winter months. However, there are small fairs in some places and many concerts take place before the New Year. And then there would be New Year's Eve. On December 31, there is a "big feasting" in Uzbekistan. You go from house to house, visit relatives, friends and neighbors and everywhere the tables are covered and you eat all day ...
Winter
Ich war fast den ganzen Winter 2018/2019 in Usbekistan und kann sagen, dass das Klima nicht mehr so streng ist, wie es früher einmal war. Natürlich war es manchmal ziemlich kalt, aber manchmal war schönstes Wetter bei 15 Grad Celsius. Früher gab es viel Schnee und die Winter waren kalt und streng. Ich erlebte jedoch nur ein einziges Mal Schnee in Samarkand. (Dafür hat es dieses Jahr Anfangapril geschneit! Der Klimawandel ist auch in Zentralasien angekommen.)
Was für eine Reise nach Usbekistan im Winter spricht, sind die geringe Anzahl Touristen, die "weihnachtliche Stimmung" ab Dezember (Usbeken sind zwar Muslime und feiern Weihnachten nicht, aber sie haben die Weihnachtsdeko und den Weihnachtsmann von den Russen übernommen, was für sie zum Neujahrsfest gehört.), Neujahr in Usbekistan erleben und wenn man Glück hat, die usbekischen Sehenswürdigkeiten in eine dünne Schneeschicht gehüllt. Das ist dann wirklich eine winterliche Märchenlandschaft.
Mir sind keine Festivals bekannt, welche in den Wintermonaten stattfinden. Es gibt jedoch mancherorts kleine Jahrmärkte und vor Neujahr finden viele Konzerte statt. Und dann wäre da noch Silvester. Am 31. Dezember herrscht in Usbekistan "das grosse Schlemmen". Man geht von Haus zu Haus, besucht Verwandte, Freunde und Nachbarn und überall sind die Tische übervoll gedeckt und man isst den ganzen Tag...
